I often get asked "how do I eat out successfully?" well, I'm here to help! Below are some tips!


Tips for successfully eating out:

  • Before you eat out, you should have a game plan. Look at a menu online! Choose your food ahead of time, and log it into MFP. (Then you can plan your day backward around the restaurant meal.)

  • In order to successfully estimate your portions, one option is to use your hand (the size of a woman’s palm is about 4 ounces of cooked protein, for example). *refer to general guidelines for more info*

  • Ask your server not to cook your food in butter/oil and to use Pam spray instead. If you order a salad, ask for dressing on the side.

  • Request that your server does not bring bread to the table.

  • Choose foods that are leaner protein sources with lower carbohydrates and fat.

  • Sit at the table so you're facing away from the buffet.

HIGH-CALORIE WORDS

  • Buttery

  • Creamed

  • Crispy/crunchy

  • Smothered

  • Alfredo or white sauce

  • Fried/deep-fried/pan-fried

  • Scampi

  • Loaded

LOW-CALORIE WORDS

  • Seasoned

  • Roasted

  • Light

  • Fat-free

  • Reduced

  • Marinated

  • Fresh
